Applications

In the KWEM washer/grinders, the modular belt plays a core fruit-processing role. Once fed in, the fruit’s cleaned thoroughly in the tank before the belt conveys it upward. The fruit is then taken straight to the centrifugal mill. The produce transfers from the belt to the mill without interruptions to the material flow.

At the same time, the belt’s operating under consistently challenging conditions. The process is persistently wet. Fruit juices and fruit acids have an ongoing impact on the belt material and profile shape. At the same time, the belt conveys pieces of fruit in different sizes and weights on a fully automatic production line.

Before the company used Forbo’s Siegling Prolink series 8 , the modular-belt material repeatedly had problems. The following issues occurred with the belts:

  • Cracks formed on the profiles

  • During operation, the material became brittle

  • These challenges meant:

  • An increase in maintenance

  • An adverse effect on the production line’s reliability

As a result, Kreuzmayr sought a belt capable of withstanding the mechanical load and chemical impact of fruit processing.

Our belt solution

Forbo’s Siegling Prolink series 8 proved to be the right solution. It provided the S8.1-25 RAT belt with an open area of 25%. The rounded surface minimizes product contact and ensures excellent release properties during transfer to the centrifugal mill downstream.
Due to a profile with a reinforced base, the belt has exceptional load-bearing capacity and tracks in a persistently stable way.

Even under the mechanical load of fruit processing, the belt operates dependably throughout the KWEM system’s cycle.
The belt’s special material is another key factor. This material has had a good track record in this application, even when fruit acids are constantly acting on it. The modular design of the Prolink series 8 boosts the machinery’s hygiene and integrates seamlessly with Kreuzmayr’s machine concept.
