Eliminating cracks during egg conveying

The customer

The customer is an Indian OEM specializing in machinery for various poultry processing applications, with a particular focus on egg conveying. The company is an established regional supplier in this segment, providing equipment designed to support efficient and reliable egg handling processes.

Egg processing with Siegling Prolink

The application

The eggs are collected from various battery-cage layer systems and conveyed to a centralized warehouse. The conveyor line is positioned upstream of the egg-cleaning section, where the customer washes the eggs in lukewarm water before they proceed to the final packaging stage.

The modular belt previously used allowed too much movement along the conveyor. As a result, the eggs rolled uncontrollably, causing hairline cracks to form and resulting in production losses of approximately 10%.

The OEM therefore needed a belt solution that would reliably keep the eggs in position while also enabling particularly gentle transport.

An additional challenge was posed by a short transfer point. In this case, the gap between the conveyor belt and the subsequent roller had to remain as small as possible. A larger transfer gap increases the impact load and, consequently, the risk of more hairline cracks.

Our belting solution

Siegling Prolink S2-RRB is used for most of the conveyor. The special surface pattern keeps the eggs on the belt and prevents excessive rolling.

For the critical transfer point, the OEM uses Siegling Prolink S15-47. The nose deflection allows for a tight and precise transfer to the following roller, therefore reducing the stress on the eggs during transition.

Both belts are made of POM and combine high rigidity with good wear resistance and dimensional stability.

Forbo didn’t just supply the belts, it went the extra mile for the OEM by assisting with:

· Selectingsuitable belt types
· Designing the critical transfer point
· Integrating the two belt solutions into the existing machine design

The combination of two coordinated Prolink belt types and technical support from a single source were the deciding factors in the OEM choosing Forbo.

Results

Since installation of the new belt solution, no more hairline cracks have been detected in the first two months of operation.

The production loss of approximately 10% previously caused by damaged eggs was eliminated.

For the OEM, the project also establishes a new technical partnership with Forbo and lays a solid foundation for further joint poultry processing applications.
