The partnership between Körber Supply Chain and Forbo Movement Systems has been built over many years on mutual trust, technical expertise, and a shared commitment to innovation.
In 2021, both companies entered a new phase of cooperation with the Pattern Mixer project. The goal was to identify a robust and flexible conveyor solution capable of meeting the demanding operational needs of Körber’s latest automation system.

Through close collaboration and technical refinement, the optimal solution was identified and implemented within the same year.

Application

The Pattern Mixer was initially developed for Körber’s tray-loading system, but its flexibility has made it a versatile solution for multiple logistics processes.
It can also be used to align products laterally before entering the Inline Box Tilter, ensuring precise positioning and smooth transfer.

In operation, the Layer Picker, together with the tray-loading system, depalletizes pallets containing identical products, separates and reorients them, and places them on trays to form customized product patterns.
Products are received on a single infeed line and distributed into several rows during outfeed, enabling efficient and adaptable material flow.

To achieve this, Körber needed a conveyor belt that was both flexible and durable, able to handle continuous mechanical and environmental stress typical in automated warehouse systems.

Series 18-44 GRT

Our belt solution

Forbo Movement Systems supplied the Prolink Series S18-44 GRT in blue POM-CR, offering a collapse factor of 1.7 or 2.2 depending on the conveyor’s width and length.
The POM-CR material was chosen for its exceptional wear and dust resistance, crucial when handling cardboard boxes and similar packaging materials.

This belt combines stability, low friction, and long service life with the flexibility required for precise product handling in compact, automated layouts — exactly meeting Körber’s technical requirements.

The result

The Pattern Mixer now uses the Prolink Series S18-44 GRT 1.7 POM-CR WT [PLX BL], typically in dimensions of 5,512 × 343 mm and a collapse factor of 1.7.
Its proven flexibility and durability have made it a standard component in almost all Körber systems — both in current installations and in upcoming projects with pattern-mixing functionality.

By 2025, the Pattern Mixer concept has been fully standardized, with belt configurations ensuring reliable performance, low maintenance, and consistent operation across system variants.

This long-standing collaboration between Forbo Movement Systems and Körber Supply Chain is a strong example of how shared engineering know-how and material innovation can drive the creation of efficient, reliable, and scalable automation solutions - supporting Körber’s mission to deliver intelligent supply chain systems worldwide.
