Marmoleum in Healthcare

Marmoleum floors, made from up to 98% natural raw materials, not only reduce environmental impact but also enhance indoor spaces by promoting a tactile and visually appealing link to the natural world. By resisting microbial growth and being free from phthalates and allergens, Marmoleum floors also ensure a wholesome indoor atmosphere.

We invite you to create sustainable spaces that have a positive impact on everyone and everything.

Create healing environments, start with the floor

With millions of square meters of our floor coverings installed in healthcare, Forbo is at the forefront when it comes to understanding the needs and concerns of hospitals, nursing homes, dental practices, and other healthcare facilities.

ENVIRONMENT: MARMOLEUM IS THE BEST NATURAL FLOORING

Climate positive flooring

Marmoleum is climate positive from cradle to gate and therefore the best natural flooring in the world. The photosynthesis of all plants used in Marmoleum, realises a CO2 uptake that is larger than the CO2 emission caused by transport and production processing.

  • Up to 98% natural raw materials

  • Circular ready, recycled content from cutting waste and take back schemes

  • Free of PVC, PET, synthetic rubber and plasticizers

  • Climate positive without offsetting

BREEAM & LEED

Marmoleum floors contribute to BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating systems and therefore meet the building requirements today and in the future.

Both are globally accepted programs that indicate that a building has been designed and built to a certain level of environmental responsibility.

LCA, EPD & HPD

In our opinion, flooring companies must be transparent about the performance of their floors. We offer multiple reports to provide evidence that our Marmoleum floors are truly sustainable, both for the planet as well as for our health.

LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) and HPD (Health Product Declaration) are third-party verified assessments examining the environmental impact associated with all the stages of a product's life.

HEALTH & HYGIENE: MARMOLEUM FOR HEALTHY INDOOR ENVIRONMENTS

MRSA resistant

A clean and hygienic floor can contribute to the well-being of the patient. Especially in areas where patients with fragile health are treated or nursed, a sterile environment is vital.

The natural raw materials used to produce Marmoleum, particularly linseed oil, inhibit the growth of bacteria. The antibacterial properties provide protection from the moment the floor is installed and will not diminish over time. Installing a Marmoleum floor adds to the precautions you can take to minimize microbiological contamination.

Independent testing by the University of Glasgow has proven that Marmoleum has a unique suitability for a diverse range of environments where hygiene and controlling bacteria such as MRSA or E. coli is a daily concern.

Good indoor air quality

We are constantly working on creating better indoor environments and healthier buildings by supplying floor coverings that are not only functional and comfortable but also safe and environmentally friendly.

Marmoleum floors are non-toxic, phthalate free, low emitting and compliant to all international standards. Marmoleum floors are Indoor Air Comfort Gold certified, which guarantees compliance with low product emission requirements.

Marmoleum has been awarded the Allergy UK Seal of Approval, indicating that the flooring contributes to the well-being of people suffering from asthma and allergic diseases by effectively reducing allergens.

DESIGN: MARMOLEUM OFFERS ENDLESS DESIGN POSSIBILITIES

Design for well-being

We made it our mission to design products that contribute in a positive way to the health and comfort of the individual by bringing nature in. By selecting Marmoleum, one not only makes an eco-conscious choice but also embraces biophilic design, creating interiors that resonate with the human need for connection to nature.

Designing walkways, different zones and signage makes it easier for staff and patients to find their way within large healthcare facilities. Thanks to the wide possibilities of combining colours and applying way-finding marks in the floor covering via our aquajet technique, Marmoleum floors contribute to the proper design of different zones and walkways, making navigation through the building much easier.

Improve comfort by design

Design has the ability to influence mood, evoke states of mind and shape behaviors that promote healing and well-being in patients. Particularly in healthcare, you want a visitor to feel comfortable and at home.

The choice of floor colour and pattern, light reflectance value (LRV), lighting and acoustics all have a significant impact on well-being and comfort. The pattern and colour of the floor can influence sensory input and create a calming and relaxing atmosphere. High LRV floor surfaces reflect more light and can create a brighter, more open environment, while floors with a low LRV value absorb more light and create a darker, more intimate atmosphere. LRV values have been tested and are available for all of our Marmoleum floors. Our special acoustic linoleum floors offer good sound-absorbing properties.

FUNCTIONAL: MARMOLEUM IS A STRONG & DURABLE FLOOR THAT IS EASY TO CLEAN AND MAINTAIN

Proven floor performance

Especially in healthcare environments, it is important that a floor can withstand the impact of the day to day traffic of heavy equipment, hospital beds, wheelchairs and heavy foot traffic. In addition, floor coverings in healthcare areas are often exposed to a wide variety of spills and potential stains from a wide range of chemicals. Marmoleum's Topshield pro surface finish can handle it all because it is chemical resistant and protects the floor from scratches and stains.

Marmoleum with Topshield Pro has been thoroughly tested in our own laboratory, in real-life settings and with external experts such as TÜV. The tests have shown excellent performance and effectiveness in various situations.

Easy to clean and maintain

The hard-wearing and smooth surface of Marmoleum with Topshield pro ensures easy cleaning and maintenance. No chemicals like wax or polish are needed to ensure the optimal appearance for years.

Marmoleum with Topshield pro is designed to keep its appearance. If the simple guidelines in the triangle below are followed, Marmoleum floors stay beautiful, have a low cost of ownership and keep their exceptional performance against soiling, staining, wear and scuffing for an extended period of time.

The finishing touch

With a proper Marmoleum installation, you get a water-resistant floor – one that can be cleaned with water even if it is not welded. If there are no specific requirements to weld, you can save time and installation costs by opting for a net fit seam installation. In those cases where welding still needs to be done, matching welding rods in a uni or multi-coloured texture are available for each Marmoleum design.

When areas demand hygienic and watertight floor to wall installation, coving offers an elegant solution that can be handmade with the help of a cove forming strip.
Marmostrip skirtings provide a functional as well as attractive junction between floor and wall. Our Marmostrip solutions can be supplied with or without a hygienic or decorative aesthetic top edge finish.

Acoustic & conductive Marmoleum

For special application areas, Forbo offers Marmoleum acoustic, conductive and sports floors.

Acoustic floors are key when it comes to reducing noise in buildings. Forbo offers two special acoustic linoleum floor coverings that create healthy and quiet environments:
Marmoleum Acoustic reaches up to 14dB impact sound reduction and Marmoleum Decibel achieves sound reductions of up to 18dB.

Marmoleum Ohmex is a static dissipative floor covering that meets higher requirements for electrical conductivity. Ohmex ensures personal safety and protects medical equipment that is sensitive to static discharge.
