Forbo Flooring Systems recently donated its Marmoleum linoleum flooring for the refurbishment of a Bright Horizons Foundation for Children’s Bright Space at Andrew Provan House in London’s Notting Hill.

Andrew Provan House (APH), which is operated by the charity Field Lane, provides safe accommodation and support to families in South West London, including those who have experienced homelessness, drug addiction and abuse. Andrew Provan House also hosts a Bright Space, funded by the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children. Bright Spaces are designed to provide safe, welcoming and relaxing environments for children and families experiencing trauma and adversity. The APH Bright Space was the first in the UK and was officially opened in May 2008.

At the end of 2024, as the Foundation planned the opening of its 100th Bright Space, it also looked to refurbish its first. Following previous work with Bright Horizons, which operates almost 300 community and workplace nursery settings across the UK, Forbo learnt of the efforts to refurbish the APH Bright Space and offered to donate its flooring to the project.

Speaking about the project, James Morton, Regional Manager – London South East at Forbo Flooring Systems said: “Our Marmoleum Striato flooring range was selected due to the desire to create a comfortable, calm and ‘at home’ feel, while still achieving the benefits of high-quality linoleum. The softly striped Marmoleum Striato design provides a subtle abstraction of wood, giving the flooring a natural look. Marmoleum is durable and easy to clean, as well as having ultra-low emissions and the Allergy UK Seal of Approval.

“Sustainability was another core requirement for the Foundation and Field Lane teams, with Marmoleum’s environmental credentials ticking these boxes.”

Marmoleum is manufactured from up to 98% natural raw materials, 62% renewable resources and 43% recycled and reused material, independently certified as Climate Positive (cradle to gate) without offsetting.

Tracy Wilkes-Green, Bright Space Manager for the Foundation said, “The new flooring has made such a difference to the Bright Space, providing a practical and attractive surface on which to place the furniture, equipment and play resources. We are deeply grateful for Forbo’s generous donation, as this enabled us to fund the resources for the children and families to enjoy.”

In addition to the new flooring, the Bright Space was also freshly painted, furnished and equipped with new toys, books, games and art supplies.

The Bright Space was officially reopened in 2025 with the ribbon-cutting carried out by Bright Horizon’s Managing Director International, Ros Marshall and Field Lane Chief Executive Officer, Peter Calderbank.
