First manufactured in 1924, our Nuway primary barrier matting, is one of the most popular entrance flooring systems available on the market, and incredibly has been manufactured at the same site in Telford for almost 100 years! As we look forward to celebrating the 100th anniversary of Nuway, we thought we’d tell you all about the evolution of this historic solution.
Humble beginnings
It was in 1924 that our Telford site first began producing rubber matting made from recycled material – matting that we now know as Nuway. From here the Nuway range continued to evolve, with the ‘link mat’, which was available in 40 varieties, launched in the 1950s. This link matting was used in a range of settings, from boats to cars and even in factories.
The 1960s saw the development of our best-selling double-sided system, Nuway Tuftiguard, which further pushed the boundaries of entrance flooring systems.
By the 1980s PVC-coloured inserts were introduced, adding to the versatility of the offering, and in the 2000s, Nuway Grid and Nuway Connect were launched.
Now, Nuway is the recognised market leader in engineered entrance flooring systems, offering a wide range of rigid single and double sided made-to-order mats. It provides an outstanding first line of defence against dirt and moisture entering a building on the soles of shoes or treads of wheels. It’s also available in a variety of designs, to function not only as an entrance flooring system, but to complement the wider interior flooring scheme.
Made To Order
Some people may not know this, but Nuway is made completely by hand by specially trained individuals onsite in Telford. This means that all product is made bespoke to customer requirements, with no ‘off the shelf’ items stocked for this product line. With this in mind, you can be sure that you’re getting a product of true quality when you order Nuway.
Despite being entirely handmade, an amazing 18km2 of Nuway is made on average per year at the Telford site and is installed across the world in airports, train stations, shopping centres and schools – to name just a few!

Specialist Services
As Nuway is made by hand, it comes with several specialist services, such as the ability to add bespoke logos or create different shapes to suit a customer’s requirements. Additionally, we have our FESSI training centre based onsite in Telford, which is the only UK based approver for EFS installers, providing peace of mind to end users that their EFS is installed to the highest standards. There is also a four-day lead time on all orders below 20m2, meaning you can be sure you get the product you need, in a timely fashion.
