10 Reasons Why You Should Choose Flotex Planks
September 2022

Flotex is a flocked floor covering, which combines the appeal of a textile flooring with the hygienic and durability performances of a resilient one. It is available in a range of designs, which means it’s suitable for use in a variety of environments. But why should you specify Flotex on your next project?

Here Karen Wilding, Marketing Communications Manager from Forbo Flooring Systems, explores 10 reasons to choose Flotex Planks.

1. Contemporary designs

As Flotex has been on the market for many years there are some misconceptions that it is ‘old-fashioned’. However, with 96 unique designs to choose from, our Flotex Planks subvert this.

In fact, the collection is available in contemporary concrete, wooden and marble aesthetics, as well as more abstract designs such as the popular Frameweave and Converge. All of which will help you to create truly beautiful and modern flooring schemes.

2. Creating designs through installation

Not only does our range of Flotex Planks offer a variety of options when it comes to the actual colourway and design of the product, but it can also be installed in numerous ways to create different patterns, such as herringbone or zigzag motifs.

Flotex Planks also have minimal repeat in their patterning and are therefore able to create beautifully interesting floors, even when only using a single colour.

3. Easy to clean

Flotex Planks are very easy to clean, using standard cleaning products and methods. The nylon pile captures airborne allergens and fine dust, which are easily released with a standard upright vacuum cleaner.
Tougher stains can also be removed with ease, whether it’s water-soluble stains, such as coffee or soft drinks or a greasy stain, like butter or oil. Thanks to the dense surface pile and its impermeable PVC backing, Flotex Planks can be cleaned right down to the base using water and detergents, making the floor covering look as new as the day it was installed.

4. Allergy UK approved

Flotex is the only textile floor covering to have been awarded the prestigious Allergy UK Seal of Approval. Due to its highly dense pile, twice as many allergens are trapped in the nylon fibres and released upon vacuuming, when compared to conventional carpet - positively impacting the lives of allergy sufferers and creating better indoor environments.

5. Highly durable

Made with over 70 million Nylon 6.6 fibres per m2, not only do Flotex Planks provide underfoot comfort, but it is also a highly durable floor covering.

Having been put through durability tests in our factories, you can believe us when we say that Flotex won’t let you down. In fact, we’re so confident in the durability of our Flotex range that all our products come with a 10-year guarantee for commercial installations.

6. Improves wellbeing

At Forbo, we want our flooring solutions to not only look great but be good for the people using the spaces in which they are installed within. That’s why all our Flotex ranges, including our Planks collection, are phthalate-free. This reduces the amount of harmful toxins, both end-users and installers of our products will be in contact with.

On top of this, Flotex has low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) – these are chemicals released from industrially made products. They can be harmful in large quantities, so specifying a floor covering with low VOCs can improve the physical wellbeing of end-users, by reducing their exposure to such chemicals.

7. Sustainable

We pride ourselves on our ongoing commitment to the environment, using 100% renewable energy to manufacture Flotex. As well as this, we have also managed to cut our cardboard usage by 50 tonnes per year by reducing packaging in our jumbo rolls of Flotex.

Our Flotex Planks are also manufactured with water-based inks and dyes and are made up of 49% recycled content.

Finally, our production factories that make Flotex are certified to ISO 14001 – the environmental management standard.

8. Easy installation

Installation can often be a time-consuming and expensive part of a project, resulting in having to close areas off for a prolonged period. As such, choosing floor coverings that are quick and easy to install can be extremely beneficial. Flotex Planks are one of our ranges that can be used with IOBAC’s innovative MagTabs™. MagTabs™ are a flooring installation system that uses both magnetism and dry tack to provide a two-dimensional grip that locks the flooring in place with none of the issues associated with fully adhered methods.

Using MagTabs can cut installation times significantly, which in turn can decrease the cost of installation. Not only this, but it also allows the areas that were closed off for installation to be re-opened much quicker, meaning less disruption for an end client.

9. Suitable for all projects

Flotex Planks are a highly durable textile floor covering, which provides underfoot comfort, are easy to clean and maintain, and are available in a variety of contemporary designs. As such, all of this combined means it is the perfect solution for any environment, such as those found in the hospitality, retail and healthcare sectors, or education and care.

10. DSDC approved

We have worked with the Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC) at Stirling University since 2016, identifying which of our flooring solutions are suitable for use in dementia-inclusive environments. Since then, a lot of our solutions have been assessed in relation to the dementia design principles and we are delighted to say that over 1,000 of our products are suitable – including items from our Flotex range.

In conclusion, Flotex is both a true textile and a resilient floor covering, so why not specify on your next project?!
