Marmoleum - Ecolabels

Discovering the green road

Your environment benefits from using Marmoleum, not just because you are using a floor covering that is made from natural raw materials, which means that you are literally bringing nature inside, but you also benefit from a floor that is contributing to a healthy indoor environment as Marmoleum offers a floor that is hygienic and has natural bacteriostatic properties. Forbo’s Marmoleum has been awarded a large array of international environmental certificates such as the Nordic Swan, the Blue Angel and Nature Plus. In addition, Marmoleum flooring improves the environmental and well-being score in building rating schemes such as LEED, Breeam and the Well building standard.

Eco friendly labels & certification

In line with our sustainability strategy, we use various transparent certification systems from independent third parties worldwide to have our floor coverings regularly checked and evaluated.

This is positive for Forbo Flooring Systems, because it helps us to draw attention to our sustainability strategy and identify opportunities for improvement. On the other hand, it's also a confirmation to our customers, because these eco-labels prove that environmental experts are also convinced that our floor coverings are among the most sustainable on the market.

Find out more about the different eco-labels that have been awarded to our products on this page.

The Blue Angel

The Blue Angel

We have been awarded the Blue Angel for our Marmoleum floor coverings. Existing since 1978, the Blue Angel is the first environmental label to be owned by a German government agency, RAL.

The Blue Angel aims to make it easy for consumers to recognise 'healthy' products and is awarded to resilient floor coverings which are produced in an environmentally friendly manner and are safe in an indoor environment. This includes ensuring low emissions and raw materials that comply with the Chemicals Regulation REACH (EC/1907/2006)

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel was established in 1989 by the Nordic Council of Ministers as a voluntary ecolabelling scheme for the nordic countries Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. It works to reduce the environmental impact from the production and consumption of goods, and to make it easy for consumers and specifiers to choose environmentally sound goods and services.

A Nordic Ecolabelled floor covering has:-
• a high proportion of renewable and/or recycled materials
• meets stringent chemical requirements eg no PVC or phthalates
• been manufactured with energy efficiency in mind
• good durability

UL certified EPD

UL certified Environmental Product Declaration

An EPD presents quantified environmental data for a product, based on information from a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This technique takes all the following aspects into account: environmental impact of raw material acquisition, energy use and efficiency, the content of materials and chemical substances, emissions to air, soil and water and waste generation.

An EPD is the outcome of the LCA, which is verified by a 3rd party, in this case UL. Marmnoleum's EPDs verify our sustainability claims including the fact that our 2.5mm Marmoleum sheet product is CO2 neutral (from cradle to gate), without the need for offsetting.

Natureplus

Natureplus

Marmoleum 2.5mm sheet is the only linoleum floor covering awarded the natureplus quality label for sustainable home and building products.

Natureplus is the International Association for Sustainable Building and Living with about 100 members in many European countries. The aim of the association is to enforce sustainable development in the construction sector.

The Natureplus quality label stands for health compatibility, environmentally friendly production, protection of finite resources and usability. Products with this symbol consist predominantly of renewable or naturally conserved raw materials. Demanding tests and Europe's strictest limits for harmful substances guarantee the safety of the certified products.

Österreichisches Umweltzeichen

Österreichisches Umweltzeichen

Our Marmoleum floor coverings have been awarded the Österreichisches Umweltzeichen.

The Österreichisches Umweltzeichen is awarded to products and services that meet high standards of environmental and quality performance. Products bearing this eco-label must comply with a number of environmental criteria and demonstrate their compliance with an independent report. In this way, the eco-label combines high environmental standards with quality and product safety.

Red list free

RED list free

The International Living Future Institute (ILFI) has developed a red list of chemicals that must not be included in construction materials, due to health concerns. The aim is to meet the criteria of the Living Building Challenge (LBC).

'Red List free Declared' means that the product's raw materials have been evaluated and reported by the manufacturer on 100 parts per million (ppm).
