Technical Q&A (Belt Selection)

This section summarizes the information and key items that need to be checked in advance when selecting conveyor belts.

Q. “When selecting the optimum belt, what should be checked first?”

A. Please start by thoroughly reviewing the condition of the currently used belt and the machine specifications.

【STEP 1】 Clarify the basic prerequisites

First, identify and record the following basic conditions.
・Operating environment (temperature, humidity, presence of cleaning, etc.)
・Type, construction, and dimensions of the currently used belt, as well as its perceived strengths and weaknesses in actual operation

 ↓

【STEP 2】 Define the conveying application

・Shape, size, temperature, and weight of the conveyed product
・Conveying direction (horizontal, inclined, vertical)
・Conveying speed and start/stop frequency (Narrowing down the suitable product ranges)

 ↓

【STEP 3】 Conveyor design and dimensions

・Pulley (roller) diameters and belt width
・Speed and acceleration conditions
・Presence of anti-slip surfaces or linings (Check compatibility with the characteristics of recommended products)

 ↓

【STEP 4】 Load and operating conditions

・Total operating load (GD²) and acceleration time
・Frequency of stopping and restarting
・Tracking control measures and tension adjustment range (These factors directly affect belt service life and running stability)

 ↓

【STEP 5】 Determine the belt category

① General conveying and processing → Transilon
② Applications requiring partial replacement and flexible design → Prolink
③ High-efficiency and power transmission → Extremultus, etc.

 ↓

【STEP 6】 Select surface design and functional features

・Anti-slip and patterned surfaces
・Drainage capability / open area (for modular belts)
・Hygienic design and cleanability (Confirm functional requirements such as dust, oil, or food contact)

 ↓

【STEP 7】 Reflect environmental and additional requirements

・High- and low-temperature resistance
・Chemical and oil resistance
・Antistatic properties (HC versions)
・Silicone-free specification (for painting processes) (Finalize the specification according to environmental conditions)

 ↓

【STEP 8】 Final check of design parameters

・Verification of belt tension and minimum pulley diameter
・Splicing / endless fabrication method
・Tension adjustment and tracking measures (Confirm that the selected belt meets all design parameters)

 ↓

【STEP 9】 Finalize the list of suitable products

Select the product range that meets all the above conditions and determine the optimum specification.

When selecting a belt, we strongly recommend using the “Application Questionnaire.”
