In February 2022, the German Red Cross opened its sports and exercise day care centre Hansehüppers in the north of Wismar. The day-care centre has a sports-pedagogical profile: movement, healthy nutrition, independence and creativity are in the foreground. The overall concept for promoting movement and sport in children from the age of 1 is reflected in the building and the outdoor facilities. In order to optimally implement this special concept, the day care centre is almost 300 square metres larger than a comparable standard day care centre. Another structural feature are the ceilings with a room height of almost 4 metres, where sports equipment is installed - in some cases even in the corridors. The corridors of the day-care centre are also wider than usual.
Marmoleum Fresco, Forbo Flooring's marbled linoleum, predominantly in shades of grey and blue, was used as the floor covering for 1,400 square metres. Thus, when looking out the window at the Baltic Sea, the choice of colours symbolically reflects the blue sea on the floor. The corridor floors of the kindergarten and crèche feature racing tracks realised by means of inlays. The racetracks encourage the little guests to run races or compete with bobby cars and tricycles. Bouncy boxes were also incorporated into the linoleum floor to encourage differentiated learning through play. Linoleum was also laid as a stair covering and as an accent surface on the seating areas of the large wooden benches, which invite children to romp and relax. Another eye-catcher on the hallway floor in the entrance area is the red cross, the emblem of the DRK Kreisverband Nordwestmecklenburg, also a linoleum inlay, which gives the entrance a warm and individual touch.
Manuela Bünger, Bünger. Ingenieure reports: "I have often used Marmoleum and know its strengths. It is very robust and durable. That's why I deliberately used the material in the sports day-care centre for the children's sports surfaces and competition tracks. Individual floor designs through inlays underline the sports concept of this special day-care centre."
Jaqueline Böddeker, Marketing Communication Forbo: Where else have you used Marmoleum?
Manuela Bünger, Bünger. Ingenieure: "For example in schools, where floors are heavily stressed by street shoes. These loads pass Marmoleum by without a trace. Another example is the changing areas of a local industry with 600 employees. The floors are exposed to heavy dirt loads from work shoes. However, this is not a problem for the floor covering. I know from experience what Marmoleum can do."
