The daycare center in Criewen, a district of Schwedt/Oder, is Germany’s first national park daycare center. It was opened in March 2024 and is located in close proximity to the Lower Oder Valley National Park. The daycare center offers space for 45 children aged 0 to 12 and places particular emphasis on an education close to nature.
The close cooperation with the rangers of the national park enables the children to experience nature up close. Regular excursions and projects, such as planting a vegetable garden in the neighboring park, promote understanding of ecological relationships and environmental protection. The daycare center has spacious, child-friendly rooms, including an exercise room, separate bedrooms and a creative workshop. The outdoor area offers a natural playground and a covered terrace. The close proximity to nature allows children to be outside and explore the surroundings in any weather.
The new building was planned and implemented with sustainability and ecology in mind and is characterized by its natural design, which reflects the relationship to the surrounding landscape. The interior is dominated by warm natural colors, large-format photos from the national park, tree houses and a creative workshop. Linoleum from Forbo in warm colors was used as flooring. The floor covering is not only particularly sustainable, but also extremely hard-wearing, which is particularly important in busy daycare centers. The large selection of designs made it possible to create a harmonious, colorful floor covering design.
