Why choose Entrance Flooring?

Why choose Entrance Flooring?

Entrance flooring systems play a critical safety role in modern life. Did you know that slips, trips and falls on the same level make up 29% of non-fatal injuries each year (source: Health and Safety Executive - Kinds of accident in Great Britain, 2019)? Each incident can cause financial loss and suffering for individuals, companies and wider society. While dry or wet soiling can create slip hazards, looking sensibly at flooring surfaces and installing effective entrance matting means the potential for slipping can be reduced dramatically.

The Equality Act and Health and Safety legislation impose a duty of care on those who manage and own public buildings. This imposes an obligation to prevent interior floor surfaces becoming hazardous, with loose lay mats and coir not recommended.

The WELL Building Standard® recommends using entrance matting as a key tool to minimise pollutants entering the building.

Entrance zones

Choose the right entrance system

Just having a mat behind the door is not enough. People often do not stop to wipe their feet, so a good entrance flooring system has to do its job. A Coral entrance system that takes different zones into account can stop up to 95% of walked in dirt and moisture from reaching your building floors.

A functional entrance flooring system is chosen based on the location of the building (determines type of dirt), the amount of footfall (how many people walk on it), the type of people who walk on it (e.g. business people or school children) and the type of entrance in the building (large, small, inside, outside). Your entrance flooring can already start outside and continue all the way to the reception area.

We have defined 3 entrance zones.
For each zone we offer a selection of products that best fit the entrance area.
Zone 1: External primary matting
Zone 2: Internal primary matting
Zone 3: Circulation zone matting

Please click on the zones in the image below for more information.

Sustainability

Keeping the outside, outside

Did you know that installing an effective entrance system can stop up to 95% of dirt and moisture entering a building? As a result, this may save up to 65% of the lifetime cleaning costs of the floors and reduce the use of cleaning chemicals.

How it's Made
• From old carpet fluff to abandoned fishing nets, many of our Coral collections are made from Econyl®, a high quality yarn made from 100% regenerated polyamide
• In addition to the Econyl® regenerated yarn, the primary backing of Coral Welcome is made from recycled plastic PET bottles.
• The recycled content of the aluminium used in Nuway Tuftiguard is 60%
• All the aluminium and steel wastes generated through the manufacturing process are recycled. Our rubber waste is recycled through a number of outlets including equestrian centres and children’s play areas
Tuftiguard is available with Bamboo scraper bars. Bamboo is a sustainable species of grass and one of the fastest growing plants in the world. It outperforms tropical hardwoods in terms of strength and durability.
• 100% of the electricity consumed in the manufacture of Nuway and Coral comes from renewable sources.
• Our Entrance flooring systems are manufactured in production facilities that are certified to ISO 14001 - environmental management standard

Flooring for Entrances

If you really want to keep your building clean and safe, it’s not enough to throw down a mat at the door. In fact, the Health and Safety Executive advises against the use of loose lay mats which they state "can introduce a range of hazards and are not always very effective".

Creating an effective entrance flooring system involves thinking about footfall – the number of people walking in and out in a given period – and walking routes (the directions they take once inside) and applying that information in the design of the entrance area. One of the best ways to plan an entrance flooring system is to think in applications:

Application 1: Outside use
Any matting placed outside the building entrance is the first line of defence against foot-borne soil, scraping the coarsest dirt from the soles of shoes before they cross the threshold.

Application 2: Inside use
Moving inside, the next line of defence, is used to remove foot-borne moisture and finer dirt particles.

Application 3: Other circulation areas
Other areas in the building also suffer from soil and moisture; reception areas, corridors, walkways, elevators, staircase exits, etc. All these areas will be prone to residual soiling and will benefit highly from a purposely designed Coral entrance mat to absorb this soiling.
