Marmoleum is made from natural, rapidly renewable, raw materials. The craft of manufacturing linoleum has evolved over the last 150 years. Something, which, you cannot learn at any trade or craft school. In fact, only a handful of people know how to make Marmoleum.
How Marmoleum is made
Marmoleum is unique as it has a CO2 uptake in the product itself.
Photosynthesis of all plants used in Marmoleum, realize a CO2 uptake that is larger than the CO2 emission caused by transport and production processing. Therefore Marmoleum is CO2 neutral from cradle to gate.
In the last few years, many weather phenomena have occurred impacted by climate change. Reflect on the extremes of drought, fire, floods and storm ferocity in many parts of the world. More frequent and more intense. The Marmoleum CO2 neutral product range (from cradle to gate), contributes in a positive way to our environment by reducing a building's embodied energy and providing a floor that does emit carbon and does not affect worldwide climate change.
Marmoleum is truly the best flooring choice for a sustainable interior. A durable, natural material in your house, office, school, train, hospital, or retail store, that contributes to a better interior environment.
Forbo Flooring Systems Australia has partnered with Carbon Neutral Charitable Fund to plant native Australian trees and shrubs to help restore Australia's biodiversity.
Every square metre of Marmoleum installed now contributes to restoring Australian native forests. CNCF plants native trees creating long term carbon sinks which in addition to capturing carbon provide habitat and protection of local native species.
Manufacturing a product that is naturally carbon neutral and working with an organisation like CNCF to replant native trees and shrubs is just one way we can make a positive and real difference to the built and natural local environment.

Fact: "On average every square meter of Marmoleum we produce actually removes from the environment 40 grams of carbon dioxide"
To prove the eco-friendliness of our linoleum product, Forbo Flooring uses several assessments. The first is the life cycle assessment (LCA) technique resulting in an environmental product declaration (EPD). This declaration, which is transparent and third-party verified, is based on a technique to assess environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product's life from raw material extraction through materials processing, manufacture, distribution, use, repair and maintenance, to ultimate disposal or recycling.

The HPD Open Standard is a voluntary technical specification that reports product contents and the associated health information. The HPD Open Standard was developed by manufacturers, architects, designers, specifiers, contractors, and scientists. HPDs enable manufacturers to disclose information from meeting minimum requirements to full disclosure and transparency.
