Marmoleum is made from natural, rapidly renewable, raw materials. The craft of manufacturing linoleum has evolved over the last 150 years. Forbo has been driving this development through its Marmoleum brand.
Making Marmoleum flooring is an art, which is not learned at any trade - or craft school. In fact, only a handful of people know how to make Marmoleum.
Marmoleum is unique as it has a CO2 uptake in the product itself.
Photosynthesis of all plants used in Marmoleum, realize a CO2 uptake that is larger than the CO2 emission caused by transport and production processing. Therefore Marmoleum is CO2 neutral from cradle to gate.
Both the Assendelft and Kirkcaldy linoleum plants are modern production environments that operate on 100% green electricity.
Marmoleum is not only a CO2 neutral product (from cradle to gate without off setting) and reduces your projects embodied carbon, it also contributes to restoring Australia's natural landscape and biodiversity through our partnership with Carbon Positive Australia
Every square metre of Marmoleum installed contributes to restoring Australian native forests. Carbon Positive Australia plants native trees/shrubs creating long term carbon sinks which in addition to capturing carbon provide habitat and protection of local native species. Each area is different.

In the last few years, many natural disasters have occurred and their intensity is growing due to climate change. Drought and fire in large parts of the world, flooding in others and extremely powerful cyclones. The Marmoleum CO2 neutral product range (from cradle to gate), contributes to a better environment by producing a product that does not add to global carbon emissions and is the sensible flooring choice for every sustainable interior. By using Marmoleum in your house, office, school, train, hospital or retail store, you are also contributing to a better environment!

Fact: "Every square metre of Marmoleum 2.5 mm we produce actually relieves the environment of 40 grams of carbon dioxide"
Innovator & artist, Daan Roosegaarde, and CEO of the World Green Building Council, Cristina Gamboa, shared their inspirational outlook at the first Forbo Flooring Systems international webinar, entitled A vision for a CO2-neutral future. During the webinar, the two guests also urged for change to start sooner rather than later. Gamboa: “Constructing a world that destructs, is no longer valid.”

To prove the eco-friendliness of our linoleum product, Forbo uses several assessments. The first is the life cycle assessment (LCA) technique resulting in an environmental product declaration (EPD). This declaration, which is transparent and third-party verified, is based on a technique to assess environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product's life from raw material extraction through materials processing, manufacture, distribution, use, repair and maintenance, to ultimate disposal or recycling.
