HLZ MD Ultra scanning cans

Application

The HLZ MD Ultra is an industrial high-speed counting and sorting machine for handling of refillable and non-refillable used beverage containers. Made of stainless steel (AISI304), the machine is designed for handling of any mix of PET bottles, cans and glass bottles. This machine is equipped with a scanner unit that registers the barcodes, matrix codes and security marks of the passing beverage containers.

This makes it easy to sort by material type or distributor brand. The number of stations on the machine is flexible and designed for free configuration to accommodate the number of required sorting fractions. The modularity and flexibility of the HLZ system makes it easy to meet customer-specific requirements. Each machine is designed specifically for each redemption center/counting center taking into consideration its volumes, available space and suitable loading method.

Our belting solution

The belts used are predominantly Prolink Series 8.1 and Series 4.1 – and always in POM. Under these tough conditions S8.1 and S4.1 in POM offer superior durability.

An optimized module and hinge shape in Series 8.1 allows quiet transition between the slide bars and when entering and leaving the slider bed. Series 4.1 with its small pitch is ideally suited for applications requiring small transfer gaps. Wide sprocket teeth ensure superior sprocket engagement and strength.

The result

Anker Andersen has grown from a position where 10-15 units were delivered yearly, back in 2017/2018 until now 2024, to more than 500 counting and sorting units being sold. This massive growth requires flexibility and scalability from their suppliers.

To meet the increasing demand, Forbo developed new injection molding tools in close corporation with Anker Andersen, optimizing the dimensions of the individual Prolink modules to fit best with the required dimensions of the plastic modular belts. This optimized design did not only reduce the fabrication time of the belts, but also minimized the waste produced by cutting modules to the required width to a minimum being in line with the sustainability goals of both partners.
