Why choose carpet tiles?

Carpet tiles and modularity

Today’s modern office environments with open office systems are designed for flexibility to accommodate frequent layout changes. A modular floor can be quickly adapted to new requirements thereby reducing the cost of reorganisation.

Where carpet tiles are installed, telephone, electrical and other underfloor systems remain easily accessible for these changes to be made.

• Colour co-ordinated for maximum design flexibility
• Increased speed of installation
• Installation wastage is reduced
• Damaged or soiled tiles can be replaced
• Wear rotation to extend flooring lifespan
• Renovation with minimal disruption
• Compatibility with access systems

With all this flexibility, we’re sure that whatever the specification, whatever the budget, you’ll find exactly what you need in our carpet tile portfolio.

Carpet tiles - closing the loop

We are always looking for ways in which to improve our production processes and product constructions to make them more sustainable. Not only do all our UK produced tufted tiles have over 50% recycled content (by weight), we can reprocess production and installation off cuts and close the loop.

How it's made

• By challenging the way tufted carpet tiles are made, our UK produced Tessera tiles now boast over 50% recycled content.
• We use innovative ultrasonic blades to cut our carpet tiles, which reduces tile waste by 80% compared to the standard press cutting methods.
• We have invested over £1m in a new extruder to ensure that the little waste we generate is recycled back into new product.
• Instead of throwing away yarn ends, we rewind them and tuft them into our Tessera products. We also have several ranges made with Econyl® regenerated yarn. Econyl
• Flotex tiles contain 67% recycled content and Flotex sheet contains 20% recycled content.
• Flotex is the only flocked floor covering to have been assessed under BREEAM and rated mostly A/A+.
• Of all the electricity we buy, 100% comes from renewable sources. This means our carpet tile production sites are part of an effective environmental management system and achieve ISO14001 certification.

How it performs

• Our carpet tiles are quick and easy to clean using a system called Dry Fusion which uses heat, a little water and natural organic cleaners. So you can use less water and fewer chemicals without compromising on appearance.
• Our innovative random lay carpet tiles reduce fitting waste to less than 2%.
• Through our back to the floor scheme, we can collect installation off-cuts from Flotex and Tessera nylon carpet tiles and recycle them back into Forbo products at our plants in Preston, Lancashire and Ripley, Derbyshire. Back to the floor
• Flotex benefits allergy sufferers and has received Allergy UK's seal of approval. It releases twice as many allergens on cleaning than standard carpet.
• As a founder member of Carpet Recycling UK, we are also working to ensure that at the end of life, our carpet tiles can be recycled or reused.

Where to use carpet tiles?

Comprehensive choice of carpet tiles for all commercial applications

Carpet tiles are ideal for all types of educational and commercial properties and have various aesthetic and performance benefits depending on the constructions of the tile. The comprehensive options include loop pile, cut and loop pile, random lay batchless, cut pile, fusion bonded and electrostatically flocked.

Loop pile
Carpet tiles with a standard loop pile construction are designed to maintain their good looks in the most demanding heavy traffic areas of buildings such as office or school corridors, reception and general circulation areas. Textured loop pile tiles offer distinctive in-built texture and contemporary styling coupled with a robust and durable construction.

Textured loop & Random Lay, Batchless
A random-lay tile is cleverly designed so that it may be laid in any direction to produce a totally individual installation reducing installation waste to less than 2%. Different production consignments of ‘batchless’ tiles can be used together in an installation without the usual risk of visible batch variation. These tiles are ideal for large open plan areas with desks and castor chairs are common.

Cut & loop pile
Cut and loop pile tiles feature a clever hybrid construction that offers all the robustness of a conventional loop pile product but with the superior aesthetics and more luxurious feel of a cut pile carpet tile. Hardwearing enough for general circulation areas, but with an added feel of luxury and creative design.

Electrostatically flocked
Electrostatic flocking is a unique method of manufacture where ‘charged’ nylon fibres are bonded into an adhesive backing to create a very dense (over 70 million nylon fibres per m²) and durable product. This makes Flotex a perfect option for very busy locations, such as, schools, counter areas, kiosks and call centres as it is able to withstand extreme wear and castor chair traffic. Flotex has also been awarded Allergy UK’s seal of approval.
