A major step forward in our journey to create better environments
Until all global transport systems can run on renewables, we’re taking action where we can make the biggest difference today. In Sweden, that means switching entirely to fossil-free transport—locally and from our central European warehouse—where the conditions and partnerships are already in place. By acting regionally, we overcome current barriers and keep moving forward toward our net-zero goal.
From May 2025, Forbo Flooring Sweden will become one of the first companies in the flooring industry to operate with completely fossil-free transport. All deliveries within Sweden, as well as shipments from our central European warehouse, will run on renewable fuel.
This move will reduce our transport-related CO₂ emissions by approximately 90%. It’s a major achievement — and one that sets us apart.
Sweden is the first country within Forbo Flooring to reach this milestone, showing what’s possible with the right focus and teamwork. We’re proud to lead the way and prove that sustainable logistics at this scale isn’t just a future ambition. It’s already happening.
We didn’t make the switch overnight. The journey began in winter 2024, when we transitioned all local deliveries from our depots in Gothenburg and Stockholm to fossil-free fuel. These transports now use HVO100, a renewable diesel made from waste products such as used cooking oil and animal fats.
The next phase begins in May 2025. From that point on, every transport within Sweden and all deliveries from our European warehouse will be fossil-free. The result? A completely renewable chain from warehouse to customer.
“It’s inspiring to see Forbo Flooring take real action, not only within Sweden but also in its international logistics. It proves that even in uncertain times, companies can stay focused on the climate,” says Svante Axelsson, National Coordinator for Fossil Free Sweden.
To make this possible, we’ve brought together two key solutions: HVO100 and Nearsetting.
HVO100 is a high-quality renewable diesel that can be used in standard engines and significantly cuts CO₂ emissions. It is fully fossil-free and already powering our local deliveries, playing a key role in our broader transport strategy.
Nearsetting is a smart way of organising logistics closer to the delivery destination. By working with local transport partners instead of relying on a single central route, we reduce travel distances and lower emissions. This setup is independently verified by a third party to ensure it delivers real and measurable climate benefits.
For international transport, we use an HVO bank system. Each month, we calculate the amount of fuel used and purchase an equivalent amount of HVO100. This system is also verified by an independent third party, ensuring transparency and traceability.
By switching to fossil-free transport in and to Sweden, we expect to save an additional 490,000 kilograms of CO₂ each year. But this is just the beginning.
Our next goal is to move beyond the HVO bank system and use direct renewable fuel for all transport. We call it From Bank to Tank, and we’re working towards it together with our partners.
This shift is more than just logistics. It’s proof that large-scale, real-world change is possible. And Forbo Flooring is proud to be leading the way.
