The area in central Falkenberg, where the old garden center once stood, has been transformed into the group home Kvarteret Trädgården. The goal was clear: it should feel like a home, not an institution. To create the right atmosphere, Forbo’s Modul’up flooring was chosen, a loose-lay flooring solution with a wood pattern that offers both warmth and functionality.
A total of 10,000 square meters was installed in various patterns depending on the room type. In living areas and shared spaces, an oak-patterned Modul’up floor was applied to create a warm, cohesive feel and a homely environment. In areas like restrooms and changing rooms more neutral variations of Modul’up were chosen.
"The floor’s pattern replicates oak parquet very well. It doesn’t give a fake impression, it looks authentic," says architect Petra Strömberg at Sköld & Forsberg. She believes the oak pattern pairs nicely with adjacent wooden details such as baseboards, trims, and handrails. The floor also offers sound-dampening properties and a surface that reduces slipperiness, two important aspects in a care home environment.
For the flooring installer, the loose-lay solution meant a smoother installation, completely adhesive-free, resulting in a faster construction process and easier future maintenance. Additionally, Modul’up is 100% recyclable, contributing to both long-term sustainability and cost-efficiency.
