Björnrike Ski Club is an activity centre featuring a restaurant, café, shop, ski rental, duckpin bowling/shuffleboard and a spa, with entrances directly from both the slopes and the parking area. This means that large amounts of snow and water are brought indoors on a daily basis, while the floors are exposed to heavy wear from ski boots and studded footwear.

Floor choice: Flotex
Flotex was selected as the flooring solution throughout the entire facility – inside the entrances, restaurant, corridors, staircases, playroom and changing rooms. The choice was based on three key requirements: durability, acoustic performance and slip resistance. Flotex withstands the intense wear from ski boots, copes with large amounts of moisture without allowing it to penetrate the subfloor, and at the same time helps reduce the risk of slipping and lower sound levels.

“We have experience from several alpine restaurants and have not seen any other textile flooring that can handle the wear from ski boots like Flotex. That’s why we know it works in this type of alpine environment,” says Peter Broberg, Project Manager and co-owner of Björnrike Ski Club.

An important part of the planning was the installation of robust entrance systems, with Nuway and Coral acting as the building’s first line of defence against dirt and moisture. By efficiently capturing snow, grit and moisture already at the entrance, wear on the floors further inside is reduced – extending their service life while also lowering maintenance requirements.
