Nuuk’s new school, Atuarfik Inussuk, is designed as both a learning environment and a gathering place for the city. The school serves as a landmark where the child is at the center, and where the buildings and outdoor areas together create a vibrant “village.” The architecture draws inspiration from Greenland’s natural history and prioritizes indoor climate, daylight, and beautiful spaces that promote well-being and community.
At the same time, the school combines sustainability, acoustics, comfort, and visual identity in a cohesive floor design. KHR Arkitekter, led by project manager Morten Nøhr Frandsen, worked with Marmoleum in the colors Barbados, Silver Shadow, and Rose 3263 to support activities, wayfinding, and the students’ energy.
Marmoleum Decibel reduces impact sound by up to 18 dB, creating a calm learning environment. The result was so impressive that even King Frederik X was delighted by the school during his visit in 2024.
