Your environment benefits from using Marmoleum, not just because you are using a floor covering that is made from natural raw materials, which means that you are literally bring nature inside, but you also benefit from a floor that is contributing to a healthy indoor environment as Marmoleum offers a floor that is hygienic and has natural anti-bacterial properties. Forbo’s Marmoleum has been awarded a large array of international environmental certificates such as the Nordic Swan and the Blue Angel. In addition, Marmoleum flooring improves the environmental and well-being score in building rating schemes such as LEED, Breeam and the Well building standard.

Eco friendly labels & certification

In line with our sustainability strategy, we use various transparent certification systems from independent third parties worldwide to have our floor coverings regularly checked and evaluated.

This is positive for Forbo Flooring Systems, because it helps us to draw attention to our sustainability strategy and identify opportunities for improvement. On the other hand, it's also a confirmation to our customers, because these eco-labels prove that environmental experts are also convinced that our floor coverings are among the most sustainable and powerful on the market.

Der Blaue Engel

We have been awarded Der Blaue Engel for our linoleum floor coverings Marmoleum, Linoflex, Linoleum Tile, Sport Linoleum, Decibel and Acoustic. Existing since 1978, der Blaue Engel is the first environmental label in the world, owned by German governmental RAL.

Der Blaue Engel makes a healthy alternative for consumers recognizable. The "Blaue Engel" award is given to resilient floor coverings which are produced in an environmentally friendly manner, are safe from a health point of view in the living environment and do not contain pollutants that interfere with recovery.An Blau Engel awarded product complies to the Blau Engel low emissions requirements and has no componant that are identified as particularly alarming according to the Chemicals Regulation REACH (EC/1907/2006)

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel was established in 1989 by the Nordic Council of Ministers as a voluntary ecolabelling scheme for the nordic countries Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. It is an effective tool to help companies that want to go ahead with sustainable solutions – and thereby enable consumers and professional buyers to choose the environmentally best goods and services

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel works to reduce the environmental impact from production and consumption of goods – and to make it easy for consumers and professional buyers to choose the environmentally best goods and services.

A Nordic Ecolabelled floor covering:
• Has a high proportion of renewable and/or recycled materials, like minimum 60 % by weight of renewable raw materials
• Meets stringent requirements on chemicals harmful to health and the environment such as no PVC or no phtalates
• Guarantees low emissions and a good indoor environment
• Has been manufactured energy efficiently
• Has good durability

Meeting these criteria Marmoleum is certified SWAN.

UL certified EPD

UL certified Environmental Product Declaration

At Forbo Flooring we believe an open, honest and transparent approach to demonstrate a sustainable attitude is the only way to demonstrate the credits we attribute to our products and processes.

An EPD presents quantified environmental data for a product, based on information from a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This technique takes all the following aspects into account: environmental impact of raw material acquisition, energy use and efficiency, content of materials and chemical substances, emissions to air, soil and water and waste generation.

An EPD is the outcome of the LCA, which is published in a 3rd party verified report. With the EPD, the Marmoleum product shows its eco-friendliness with 100% transparency. The characteristic CO2 neutral (from cradle to gate) of the Marmoleum product range is visible in the EPD.

Österreichisches Umweltzeichen

Our linoleum floorings Marmoleum and Linoflex, Linoleum Modular, Linoleum Decibel and Linoleum Acoustic have been awarded the Österreichisches Umweltzeichen.

The Österreichisches Umweltzeichen is awarded to products and services that meet high standards of environmental and quality performance. Products bearing this eco-label must comply with a number of environmental criteria and demonstrate their compliance with an independent report. Only those certified environmentally friendly products that have a reasonable suitability for use and quality are awarded. In this way, the eco-label combines high environmental standards with quality and product safety.

The International Living Future Institute (ILFI) has developed the a red list of chemicals that may not be included in materials, due to health concerns, used in construction that seeks to meet the criteria of the Living Building Challenge (LBC).

Red List free Declared means that product ingredients are evaluated and reported by the manufacturer on 100 parts per million (ppm).​

Allergy UK has a number of schemes that will give you confidence that the products you buy really do perform to the claims made by the manufacturer. And the reassurance the product has been scientifically tested to prove it is efficient at reducing/removing allergens from the environment of allergy and asthma sufferers or the products have significantly reduced allergen/chemical content​.

USDA

USDA

The USDA Certified Biobased label indicates that the product has been certified by USDA to contain the percent biobased content as shown on the label.

Manufacturers who have been awarded the rights to use the USDA certified biobased label on a product have submitted test evidence of the biobased content for that product to the USDA and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)

Marmoleum has been certified 100% bio-based floor covering that outperforms the US government’s FAR sustainability and BioPreferred Designation requirements. Thanks to this, Marmoleum qualifies for Mandatory Federal Purchasing (FP)

HPD

The Health Product Declaration (HPD) of Marmoleum provide transparent, accurate, reliable and consistent reporting for the disclosure of product contents and associated human and environmental health information. This is based on the GreenScreen® method.

The HPD Open Standard was created and is supported by the Health Product Declaration Collaborative (the HPD Collaborative), a customer-led organization composed of stakeholders throughout the building industry that is committed to the continuous improvement of building products through transparency, openness, and innovation throughout the product supply chain.
