Flotex floors

Flotex floor coverings are manufactured with up to 80 million straight nylon fibres per m². Because the nylon fibres in the Flotex floors are standing straight ahead, they capture fine dust and allergens.

This unique structure ensures these can be released when vacuumed. That is why Flotex is the only textile flooring with a British Allergy Foundation approval.

Carpet floors

Loop pile carpet or loose nylon cut pile fibres retain fine dust and allergens, however, they’re not easily released due to the complex nature of the surface pile, which can result in bacterial growth and an unhygienic floor over time.

Flotex offers the quietness and comfort of a carpet but has a better hygienic performance.

Easy to clean and maintain

Cleaning and maintaining a Flotex floor is much easier than you would think. The straight nylon fibres capture fine dust and allergens, but these are easily released when vacuumed. Actually, vacuuming removes double the allergens on a Flotex floor compared to conventional carpet flooring.

  • Flotex releases up to 76% of original soil after vacuuming compared to 46% for loop pile carpet

  • Flotex releases up to 97% of original soil after spray extraction cleaning compared to 64% for loop pile carpet

  • The dense, upright pile of Flotex completely dries after wet extraction in 4 to 6 hours versus up to 24 hours for loop pile carpet

Water based dies and inks
Flotex is created with nylon 6.6 fibres. All dies and inks that are used to create the Flotex design are water based. No additional chemical processes take place other than high temperature steam treatment to secure the colours.

Recycled content
Flotex makes use of waste streams of other Forbo production locations to be added into the backing of the floor coverings. Recycled content in Flotex is up to 67% of the backing content.

Extremely durable
A big advantage for using Flotex is the extreme performance of the floor covering, with a product life time that surpasses that of ordinary textiles by a factor 6.

Green electricity
Forbo's manufacturing operations for Flotex in Great Britain, France and USA secure a high quality floor covering, produced with green electricity and minimum waste streams that are all recycled in the floor.

    Almedalsbiblioteket - Sweden

Almedalsbiblioteket (The library of Almedal) is Sweden's only integrated public and university library, located in direct connection to Campus Gotland between the harbor and the park area Almedalen in Visby. The library struggled with old wooden floors that were hard to clean, and also struggled with bad acoustics. Forbo's Flotex solved both of these problems.
