    What to use where

    What to use where

Our Step safety floors are designed to meet safety requirements in various applications. All Step floors meet and exceed strict Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and European standard requirements.

The collection is divided in 3 ranges:
    Surestep (R10), Safestep (R11, R12)
    and Wetroom floors

    Surestep
All Surestep floors provide R10 slip resistance, are non-slip particle enhanced and can be applied in all types of general walking areas where an increased slip risk may occur.
Typical areas: high traffic areas like corridors, ramps, coffee corners, washrooms, toilet, crafts class rooms and public rooms.

    Safestep (R11 & R12)
Safestep floors are applicable in areas where a higher slip risk is identified when incidental, accidental or continuous active contamination of the floor occurs. In these areas it is simply not possible to prevent spillage, due to the type of work environment.
Typical areas are: professional kitchens, light industrial food production, flourist shops, garden centres.

    Wetroom (Surestep Laguna, Safestep Aqua)
Wetroom floor coverings are developed for use in continuously wet areas, where water flows frequently and barefoot traffic is the standard, or a combination of barefoot and footwear traffic occurs.
Typical areas are; shower rooms, spa/pool surroundings, changing rooms, locker rooms.

    About slip resistance

    Slip resistance explained

A sustainable, lifetime performance as a result of particles throughout the matrix of the floor covering is the requirement to comply with EN 13845. This standard specifies the requirements that must be met to ensure durable slip resistance in varying degrees of usage intensity. All Step safety floors comply with EN13845. Download the explanation page

Floors are often evaluated on slip resistance performance by using the R-scale, which is linked to the Din 51130 standard. Measuring slip resistance on a ramp covered with oil at different angles and thereby resulting in different classes of slip. Step safety flooring is covering the most relevant classes of R10 to R12, in a comprehensive range of products that are use in conditions where footwear is the standard.

For products used in barefoot areas, DIN51097 applies. The testing method is similar to that of the DIN 51130, but this time the product is flooded with ‘soap and water’ solutions, a testing method that is more relevant to the barefoot applications. The Step range also offers unique solutions up to the highest class in barefoot safety performance. By choosing the right Step floor for the right application one can prevent the potential for accidents caused
    by slipping significantly.

    NCS & LRV

    NCS & LRV overview

Read more below about NCS and LRV values.

    LRV
In architecture, Light Reflectance Value (LRV) is a measure of the percentage of visible and usable light that is reflected from a surface when illuminated by a light source. The LRV can be linked to a number of decisions on which a colour can be chosen. The approximate LRV of a colour indicates the amount of visible light that a colour will reflect. Black has a light reflectance value of 0% and absorbs all light. White has a light reflectance value of 100% and keeps a building light and cool. It also links to the use of electricity where lighter colours need less lighting, which is a direct saving for the environment. All Forbo products carry a light reflection value, which can be found in the text next to the enlargement of the tabletop.

    NCS
NCS colour coding describes the colour of any material. With numeric colour codes, so called NCS Notations, such as NCS S 1080-Y70R, any colour can be described precisely. NCS has defined 1950 standardised colours at every 10th step of the colour space to represent the entire colour space. Each notation's colour sample is visually identical to any other colour sample of the same notation, whether it is a standardised colour or a colour in between the 1950 standard colours. This way you can find matching flooring colours with other coloured items in a room.

The 'Natural Colour System' NCS has been developped in order to indentify the colour value, its intensity and hue for a product. By using the NCS maesurement system, colours and colour groups can be identified and matched regardless of the material that has been used. In this way colour coordinates for different aspects of the interior of a building can be determined. All Forbo Flooring products carry an NCS code, which can be found next to the enlargement of the tabletop and in our downloadcenter.
