3 entrance flooring applications

3 entrance flooring applications

Creating a good entrance flooring involves thinking about footfall – the number of people walking in and out in a given period – and walking routes (the directions they take once inside) and applying that information in the design of the entrance area. One of the best ways to plan an entrance flooring system is to think in applications:

Application 1: Outside use
Any matting placed outside the building entrance is the first line of defence against foot-borne soil, scraping the coarsest dirt from the soles of shoes before they cross the threshold.

Application 2: Inside use
Moving inside, the next line of defence, is used to remove foot-borne moisture and finer dirt particles.

Application 3: Other circulation areas
Other areas in the building also suffer from soil and moisture; reception areas, corridors, walkways, elevators, staircase exits, etc. All these areas will be prone to residual soiling and will benefit highly from a purposely designed Coral entrance mat to absorb this soiling.

LRV & NCS

LRV & NCS

In architecture, Light Reflectance Value (LRV), is a measure of the percentage of visible and usable light that is reflected from a surface when illuminated by a light source. The LRV can be linked to a number of decisions on which colour can be chosen. The approximate LRV of a colour indicates the amount of visible light that a colour will reflect. Black has a light reflectance value of 0% and absorbs all light. White has a light reflectance value of 100% and keeps a building light and cool. It also links to the use of electricity where lighter colours need less lighting which is a direct saving for the environment. All Forbo products carry a light reflection value, which can be found on the collection pages with the description of each item.

NCS colour coding describes the colour of any material. With numeric colour codes, so called NCS Notations, such as NCS S 1080-Y70R, any colour can be described precisely. NCS has defined 1950 standardised colours at every tenth step of the colour space to represent the entire colour space. Each notation's colour sample is visually identical to any other colour sample of the same notation, whether it is a standardised colour or a colour in between the 1950 standard colours. This way you can find matching flooring colours with other coloured items in a room.

Light reflection (LRV) and NCS colour codes are available for all items of this collection. They can be downloaded via INSERT DOCUMENT HERE

Coral & the environment

Our search for new ways to reduce our environmental impact has led us to work very closely with forward thinking suppliers who are able to incorporate ever higher levels of recycled content in their materials.

In most of our Coral collections we use Econyl® 100%-regenerated yarn. Econyl® is made using reprocessed industrial waste and post consumer waste.

Abandoned fishing nets are one of the sources. Using Econyl® is a way to reduce existing waste, avoid additional manufacturing related pollution, and keep the consumption of natural resouces and energy to a minimium.

The toughest environmental problems are the ones that can’t be seen. One of the worst is the “submerged” problem of abandoned fishing nets. These nets, the world over, drift for months or years, ensnaring and killing whales and turtles, birds and marine mammals.

According to a joint report of the FAO and the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), this phenomenon is getting worse because of increased fishing and the introduction of new materials for fishing nets that do not naturally degrade. The report estimates that nets amount to one tenth (640,000 tons) of the waste in the oceans.

Fire standard compliance

Fire standard compliance

All vinyl-backed Coral products comply with fire class Bfl-s1. This is vital, because every entrance and exit is a fire exit, too. If compliance with even tougher fire regulations is required, we can supply our textile-based products with a special latex backing.

This backing should also be used when placing Coral on stairs.
