Healthy flooring in hospitals

Health Care Without Harm (HCWH), has identified some of the worst chemicals and materials in flooring and has created criteria that help healthcare institutions avoid those chemicals of concern along with lists of products that meet the criteria. The criteria target specific materials, chemicals, and classes of chemicals for elimination due to a range of concerns, including carcinogenicity, reproductive and developmental toxicity, persistence, bioaccumulation, and ecotoxicity, among others. The criteria also seek to drive greater transparency in flooring content, rewarding the most complete disclosure of information.

Below you can download the HCWH document. This document provides guidance for manufacturers wishing to meet Health Care Without Harm’s Healthy Flooring criteria. The criteria apply to all flooring except carpet, fluid applied floors, and concrete. The criteria do not apply to floor leveling compounds or underlayment.
