Entrance zones

Entrance zones

Creating a good entrance flooring involves thinking about footfall – the number of people walking in and out in a given period – and walking routes (the directions they take once inside) and applying that information in the design of the entrance area.

We have defined 3 entrance zones to plan in your entrance flooring solution:

Application 1: Outside use
Any matting placed outside the building entrance is the first line of defense against foot-borne soil by scraping the coarsest dirt from the soles of shoes before they cross the threshold.

Application 2: Inside use
Moving inside, the next line of defense is used to remove moisture and finer dirt particles from all feet entering the building.

Application 3: Other circulation areas
Other areas in the building also suffer from soil and moisture; reception areas, corridors, walkways, elevators, staircase exits, etc. All these areas are prone to residual soiling and will benefit highly from a purposely designed Coral entrance floor to absorb this soiling.

For each entrance zone we have a selection of Coral products that fit the entrance area best. Click here to see which product is suitable for your entrance area

LRV & NCS

Coral LRV & NCS

Download here the Coral LRV & NCS document

What is LRV & NCS?
In architecture, Light Reflectance Value (LRV), is a measure of the percentage of visible and usable light that is reflected from a surface when illuminated by a light source. The LRV can be linked to a number of decisions on which colour can be chosen. The approximate LRV of a colour indicates the amount of visible light that a colour will reflect. Black has a light reflectance value of 0% and absorbs all light. White has a light reflectance value of 100% and keeps a building light and cool. It also links to the use of electricity where lighter colours need less lighting which is a direct saving for the environment. All Forbo products carry a light reflection value, which can be found on the collection pages with the description of each item.

NCS colour coding describes the colour of any material. With numeric colour codes, so called NCS Notations, such as NCS S 1080-Y70R, any colour can be described precisely. NCS has defined 1950 standardised colours at every tenth step of the colour space to represent the entire colour space. Each notation's colour sample is visually identical to any other colour sample of the same notation, whether it is a standardised colour or a colour in between the 1950 standard colours. This way you can find matching flooring colours with other coloured items in a room.

Fire class

Fire class Bfl-s1

All vinyl-backed Coral entrance floors comply with fire class Bfl-s1. This is vital, because every entrance and exit is a fire exit too.

If compliance with even tougher fire regulations is required, we can supply our textile-based FR entrance mats with a special latex backing. This backing should also be used when placing Coral on stairs.

For more information about Coral FR please contact your local customer service department.

Environment

Coral & the environment

From how they're made to how they perform, Forbo Flooring Systems makes outstanding products that are truly sustainable.

100% green electricity from renewable sources
Of all the electricity we buy, 100% comes from renewable sources. This means our Coral production site is part of an effective environmental management system and has achieved ISO 14001 certification.

Zero landfill
Virtually zero landfill is achieved by the Coral manufacturing plant.

PET bottles
The primary backing of our Coral Welcome entrance flooring is made from recycled PET bottles.

Re-use waste.
All the waste yarn from the Coral production is re-used by the yarn supplier. Our search for new ways to reduce our environmental impact has led us to work very closely with forward thinking suppliers who are able to incorporate ever higher levels of recycled content in their materials.

Econyl® yarn
Many of our Coral entrance floors use Econyl® yarn which is made from used and abandoned fishing nets. Using Econyl® is a way to reduce existing waste, avoid additional manufacturing-related pollution, and keep the consumption of natural resources and energy to a minimum.
