2019 Round Up

December 2019

Forbo 2019 Round Up

As 2019 draws to a close, it has been another busy and exciting year for us here at Forbo. With the launch of eight major product collections, we were also named as a supplier on the Crown Commercial Services (CCS) framework and scooped another award for our Modul’up product range. We attended and organised various industry events, while also getting out on the road to meet you all at exhibitions across the country. Here, we’re taking a look back at some of our key moments of 2019.

At the beginning of the year, we took a huge step in our quest to contribute to a better environment by quantifying the environmental impact of our 2.0mm and 2.5mm Marmoleum. The independent Environmental Product Declaration, confirmed that Marmoleum is manufactured as a carbon neutral floor covering in the cradle to gate stages of the product’s life cycle, without the need for carbon offsetting.

This certification was then shortly followed by the launch of Marmoleum Marbled, a collection that is inspired by the breath-taking colours and textures found within natural landscapes and designed to help users feel at one with nature.

Forbo Tessera Nexus carpet tiles

Carpet tiles for the office sector were a pivotal focus this year as we introduced two new ranges; Tessera Nexus and Tessera Chroma.

Drawing on the close relationship between office layout and employee interaction, Tessera Nexus reflects the trend towards connectivity within workplace design.

On the other hand, Tessera Chroma is a high-end carpet tile which fuses together organic texture with chalkier colours, offering a colour balance when combined and allowing the playful clash of shades to create more dynamic and diverse workspaces.

Recognising the need for floor coverings with minimal downtime, we launched Fast Fit, a comprehensive collection of our genuinely loose lay flooring solutions, designed to be quick, easy and economical.

Comprising both entrance products and interior flooring ranges in sheet, tile and plank format, Fast Fit offers maximum flexibility. Many of the products can be fitted over existing floors resulting in less disruption and dust, and floors can even be walked on immediately after installation, offering benefits to both installers and end-users. Remarkable!

With the successes of our Flotex Colour and Eternal general purpose vinyl collections, we decided to give them a little refresh.

For Flotex Colour, we added a new design and format, as well as an array of new colours that are inspired by the moods and illuminating and spectral shades of cities around the world.

Furthermore, the Eternal collection was updated to include a selection of colourways and designs that reflect the latest trends, including a popular terrazzo and marble aesthetic, as well as an improved digitally printed offer.

This year, we collaborated with different designers and experts across the industry to help project our story further. Tying in with our Tessera Chroma launch, renowned textile artist, Anna Ray, obtained a three-month residency at our Bamber Bridge factory, creating artworks that were inspired by the colours and yarns used in the carpet tiles. Anna’s ‘Offcut’ artworks were then premiered as part of the ‘Art of Manufacturing’ series at the National Festival of Making in Blackburn, Lancashire. It was a fantastic turnout and we were delighted to be able to support the local area where we manufacture.

In September, we organised series of Pantone Colour Workshops across the UK, with the purpose of educating architects, specifiers and interior designers on the future of colour within workplace design. Here, we learnt about the upcoming trends for 2020 and how to bring them alive. From iridescent and metallic shades to digitisation and experiential visuals, we are excited to see these trends take shape over the next year.

Not forgetting at the beginning of the year we announced the winner of our annual Fly Forbo competition. We saw some exceptional projects entered into the competition, with the Halifax flagship branch (winner) and IQ Hammersmith student accommodation (runner-up) schemes really raising the bar and setting the standards for next year. Just take a look at the finished results below!

If you have worked on an outstanding Forbo project this year, make sure that you enter our Fly Forbo 2019/20 competition and you too could be off to the Big Apple! For more information, please visit: Find out how to enter the 2019/20 competition here!
