In this edition, we shine our spotlight on Garry Bateman, Head of Technical Sales and Support at Forbo, and currently serving as President of the CFA (Contract Flooring Association).
"I also feel very privileged to be able to work alongside a wide array of helpful and friendly personnel at Forbo and within the flooring industry at large."
Yes, as the job infers, my remit is wide, with quite varied responsibilities. These include managing the UK Technical team; liaising between UK and international manufacturing sites for product development, testing and complaints; providing technical support for the UK Sales and Marketing teams, including site visits in major projects; working with international colleagues to create product based e-learning modules; representing Forbo Flooring on the CFA (the UK trade association); providing technical support for the Outward Bound; managing third party relationships; overseeing the new CITB Entrance Matting training courses at Telford, and serving on the British Standard BS5325 (textile flooring) committee. My CFA Presidency involves an additional raft of responsibilities!
"The Forbo Flooring range has unlimited possibilities and enables more rounded discussions with specifiers and end users, in a way, a more enjoyable and useful exchange"
From a sales perspective securing the then new Hong Kong Airport specification (and order) for 7,500m² of Coral Plus FR for air bridges...despite the Coral management not believing it could happen.
From a work perspective, it has to be being elected as CFA President, a vote from my peers in the flooring industry for support and work over many years. Plus, you get to wear the 'bling'!
From a personal aspect, getting to the honoured position of 'Grandad' - apparently the 'Best ever' according to my granddaughter!
