Philippe, it’s been reported that despite a fascination with interior furnishings, you have absolutely no interest in carpets, yet you agreed to collaborate on a project to create a collection of designs for Flotex, which, after all, has many of the attributes of a carpet
I hate carpet. I just can’t understand why someone would choose to walk on fabric floor coverings that get dirty all the time and end up with lots of bugs
in them.
The experts say that a carpet at the end of its life can weigh double its initial weight. That’s why I use wood, stone, cement, concrete, anything but carpet.
So, what persuaded you to work with Forbo on this project?
Flotex is an intelligent floor covering,
an extremely technical product
that meets real requirements. I love those technical details. There are 70 million fibres per square metre so basically it feels like you are floating above the floor. It’s fantastic. This
is a completely new generation of flooring with textile elements and acoustic properties, but not carpet.
I was also interested by the impact that the product can have on the environment.
