Choose products that are low in VOCs

Reducing the exposure to asthma triggers is one of the most important steps to prevent flare-ups. When it comes to flooring choose products that are low in VOCs (volatile organic compounds) which is a carbon-based organic compound that off-gases at room temperature, this also includes glue and cleaning products for the floor.

We recommend: Flooring that is made from natural materials such as Marmoleum as they are less likely to emit VOCs, compared to vinyl flooring, however, if choosing a vinyl flooring make sure they are low in VOCs this also applies to cleaning agents and flooring adhesives.

Why? According to National asthma organisation; VOCs may not be good for the lungs and are best avoided especially those suffering from asthma or allergies.
