Curtin University Library

Highly Commended Project 2015/2016

The refurbished Curtin Library provides students with an informal learning environment consisting of reference areas, study pods, collaborative learning spaces and a newly refurbished café with alfresco terrace. Since these areas will experience significant pedestrian traffic, all the finishes used in the project were selected for robustness and maintainability. The main contrasting lines in the floor are mirrored in the ceiling, combining to usher students towards areas of interest.

Aldinga Beach Childrens Centre

Highly Commended Project 2015/2016

The Aldinga Children's Centre is a 65 place, indoor and outdoor learning environment for children in years 3 to 5 incorporating an integrated preschool program for children with disabilities as well as occasional care.

A seaside theme suffuses the outdoor activity area which provides opportunity for natural play with a series of landscaped rooms each with their own character, textures, scents and sounds. The beach theme flows indoors with the timber 'jetty' ceiling suspended above the watery carpet. A sandy beach which meets the water's edge to form a sinuous line weaving through the different activity areas.

Huxtaburger

Highly Commended Project 2015/2016

The footprint of the space is small at 90 square metres and the challenge was to incorporate the fundamentals of a food outlet with an interior design that complemented the style of the brand and the expectations of the customer. The use of red, black and pale blue colours throughout the interior is at once startling and inviting. A vivid herringbone graphic has been applied to the floor, walls and ceiling, distorting perspective and dazzling the eye.
