Manufacturing

Forbo manufacturing facilities all use renewable electricity and are certified to:

ISO 9001 – a standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system

ISO 14001 - a standard that specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system

OHSAS 18001 - sets out the minimum requirements for occupational health and safety management best practice

SA8000 – a standard that encourages organisations to develop, maintain, and apply socially acceptable practices in the workplace

Environmental Product Declarations (EPD's)

Forbo Flooring Systems has published Environmental Product Declarations for our individual floor covering products. An EPD presents quantified environmental data for a product, based on information from a life cycle assessment (LCA).

An EPD is a report verified by UL Environment that summarises and explains the data generated from an LCA. EPD can contribute to achieving innovation points in Green Star Projects EPD's are available to download here .

LCA

Life Cycle Assesment

Forbo uses Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as the independent methodology of measuring our impact on the environment.

Standardized within ISO 14040, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is defined as a compilation and evaluation of the inputs and outputs and the potential environmental impacts of a product system throughout its life cycle, a cradle-to-grave-approach.

The LCA is calculated for 1m2 installed floor covering from cradle to installation. We base our LCA calculation on the weighted mass of all the products we produce and also include the energy consumption of all our offices and warehouse worldwide.

SA8000®

Social Accountability International has established one of the world’s preeminent social standards – the SA8000 Standard for decent work, a tool for implementing international labour standards – that has improved the lives of over a million workers.

SA8000 guides employers to consider the importance of each job and to recognise the equal dignity of each person involved in the supply chain – from the worker to the retailer to the consumer.

The SA8000 Standard leverages the power of business and consumer to purchase products made from workplaces that enrich, not denigrate, the livelihoods of people.

Our UK, France and Netherland facilities are all certified to SA8000.

All Forbo products sold in Australia & New Zealand are produced using
100% of electricity from Renewable sources

Green information

We provide environmental datasheets for our products which are available to download at any time. Importantly, if a particular product doesn’t meet a relevant standard or criteria, this is noted on the sheets.

Green design principles

Sustainable development and ‘creating better environments’ is an integral part of all of Forbo Flooring Systems’ activities. We support this in a constructive and consistent manner through the following principles:

• ‘Compliance plus’ – a commitment to go above and beyond government regulations and requirements

• Integrating sustainability considerations into all our business decisions

• Regularly monitoring and reviewing progress in sustainability performance

• A commitment to continuous improvement

• Promoting sustainability throughout our value chain, and expecting our suppliers and customers to comply with this

• Ensuring that all staff are fully aware of our sustainability policy and are committed to implementing and improving it

• ‘Committed to the health of one’ – our focus on the health of the individual

Reduce, Renewable, Reuse, Recycle

The key to our success in implementing our environmental policies lies in the application of our "4 R's" : Reduce, Renewable, Reuse, Recycle. A number of initiatives have been rolled out across the business, and it is our commitment to continuing and improving ourselves to achieve our environmental aims.

Reduce: energy, landfill, raw material consumption
Renewable: electricity, natural & sustainable raw materials
Reuse: production waste across all sites
Recycle: product and sampling take back schemes
