Application

Application:
For creating a permanent flexible liquid floor with a natural and aesthetic appearance. The natural components cork, linseed oil and biopolymer binding agent are renewable and therefore environmentally friendly.

Working Process

Layer thickness : 2 - 2.5 mm max.
Storage : Store cool and free from frost (between 10 - 30 °C). Not in direct sunlight!
Tools : Trowel (size 400 x 100 mm, 0.7 mm thickness). Eurocol 855 mixing rod. RVS spiked roller. Mixing bucket for LiquidDesign. Mixing bucket for LiquidDesign Finish. 400 µm sieve. Spiked shoes “standard spikes” for applying 350 LiquidDesign. Spiked shoes “dull spikes” (diameter at least 10 mm) for applying 355 LiquidDesign finish. 11 mm microfiber paint roller, 250 mm and/or 500 mm width.
Sound reduction : 8 dB directly applied on a levelling layer. 15 dB applied on a 2 mm thick intermediate layer cork. Method EN-ISO 10140-1 – 5:2010, calculated in accordance with EN-ISO 717-2:2013.
Use class : Very heavy commercial use. Class 33.
Drying : May be finished after at least 12 hours. Fully hardened after 8 days*.
Shelf Life : 9 months in unopened packaging.
Potlife : Approx. 30 minutes (depending on climatic circumstances).
Frost-proof : No.

* The mentioned values have been established in our laboratory and must be considered as guidelines in view of possible variations in climatic circumstances, subfloor compositions and layer thickness.

2 – 2.5 kg/m².

Substrate:
  • 350 LiquidDesign must always be applied to a level surface. Cement composite subfloor to be levelled using 960 Europlan Super or 975 Europlan Special and calcium sulphate composite subfloor (anhydrite) to be levelled using 925 Europlan Alphy Direct or 920 Europlan Alphy. We recommend that after drying you sand the levelling compound lightly with a sanding gauze, coarseness 100 or finer and to remove all dust using an industrial vacuum cleaner.
  • 350 LiquidDesign is not suited for levelling subfloors. The more level the base the better the end result will look.
  • Prime the dried levelling compound with a lambswool roller and let it dry for at least 2 hours.
  • Prime 960 Europlan Super or 975 Europlan Special with one layer 044 Europrimer Multi. Prime 925 Europlan Alphy Direct or 920 Europlan Alphy with two layers 043 Europrimer Alphy.
  • Existing dilatations must be respected and must always be followed in the 350 LiquidDesign.

User manual:

Step 1. Preparation:

  • Check if all batch numbers on the A-component buckets are equal in order to prevent colour differences.
  • Note: order enough product units of one batch for larger floor projects.
  • Make sure all tools needed are available.
  • Acclimatise material to be used 24 hours prior to application.
  • Check if the residual moisture (anhydrite floors max. 0.5% and cement floors max. 2.5%), the floor temperature and the climatic circumstances follow the prescriptions. Ascertain the dew point on the surface of the floor with e.g. a Caisson LVT-15 thermo-/hygrometer. Surface temperature should be at least be 3 °C above dew point.
  • Divide the floor in sections in order to monitor/check the spreading capacity during application.
  • Avoid direct sunlight during application. If necessary, cover windows with e.g. carton.    

Step 2. Mixing:

  • Mix the components with an electric stirrer (approx. 300 rPM), preferably in separate room.
  • When mixing, protect floors and walls etc. from contamination with i.e. foil, carton that is fixed.
  • First, mix component A to a homogeneous mass.
  • Next, before opening, slightly shake the closed component B can (flip over three times). Add the total content of component B to component A whilst mixing during at least 2 minutes.
  • Pour the mixed components into a clean, empty bucket and mix again during at least 1 minute.
  • Keep stirring the 350 LiquidDesign mass until the application moment. That way the light components (e.g. cork) will be divided equally through the mass.

Step 3. Application:

  • Only mix enough A and B that can be applied within 30 minutes.
  • Spread the mixed 350 LiquidDesign evenly onto the subfloor with a trowel in a 2 – 2.5 mm layer thickness. Make sure you do not apply more than 2.5 mm! Check the spreading capacity regularly by monitoring the pre-divided sections. If not spread equally it could result in an uneven distribution of the 350 LiquidDesign components.
  • Immediately after spreading the 350 LiquidDesign mixture, roll the layer with a RVS spiked roller in order to get e.g. an even division of the cork particles. In this phase it is possible to walk through the wet applied layer with standard spiked shoes. Make sure you do not walk through the rolled layer.
  • The 350 LiquidDesign floor is walkable after a drying time of at least 12 hours and can thereafter be finished with 355 LiquidDesign Finish. This lacquer system must be applied in 48 hours.
  • Clean tools immediately after use with 358 ToolCleaner (use as little as needed carefully and use brush).   

Step 4. Finishing with 355 LiquidDesign Finish:

  • Check the surface for dust and dirt particles and remove if present.
  • Prevent footprints on the unfinished floor by wearing shoes with shoe covers.
  • Lightly shake the closed can of component A (turning it upside down 3 times is sufficient).
  • Mix the 355 LiquidDesign Finish components with an electric paint stirrer (approx. 300 rPM) during at least 3 minutes. First start mixing component A and add component B whilst mixing.
  • Pour the mixed 355 LiquidDesign Finish through a 400 µm sieve into a clean empty bucket and stir once again with a clean stirrer during at least 1 minute.
  • After a 10 minutes waiting time apply the 355 LiquidDesign Finish mixture evenly onto the surface with an 11 mm microfiber paint roller (spreading capacity between 125 – 150 g/m²).
  • Roll again immediately after applying this layer with a wet – but not saturated – roller. Depending on the sqm size of the surface either a roll of 250 mm or 500 mm width can be used. Applying one layer of 355 LiquidDesign Finish is enough.
  • During applying the 355 LiquidDesign Finish layer use spiked shoes with “dull spikes” (diameter at least 10 mm) in order to prevent prints into the 350 LiquidDesign floor. Do not walk through the rolled layer!
  • The finished floor is carefully walkable after a drying time of at least 24 hours.
  • After 24 hours the finished floor is cured for 80%.
  • After 8 days the finished floor is fully cured. Thus, it is important that during these 8 days the floor is not stained and/or dampened, as this may lead to a damaged finishing. Covering the floor is not allowed.
  • Fresh (not yet hardened) product stains can be removed immediately with water. After hardening the material can only be removed mechanically.
  • Clean tools immediately after use with 358 ToolCleaner.

More information:

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Ventilate the area during and after application and the drying process.
  • Do not eat, drink or smoke whilst applying this product.
  • If in contact with eyes or skin immediately rinse with water.
  • For recycling, only hand in empty packaging without remainders.
  • Do not dispose product remainders into sewer system but do so according to local environmental policies.

Component B contains isocyanates. Could cause allergic reaction.

Working conditions:
Desired room temperature : 15 - 25 °C
Temperature for material and subfloor : min. 15° – max. 20 °C
Relative humidity : 50 - 70%

Tips to maintain your LiquidDesign floor:

  • For cleaning and maintaining LiquidDesign floors we advise 359 LiquidDesign Conditioner. The protective film ensures less dirt will attach. If regularly used, the appearance of the floor will be preserved (no shiny effect). Never use chlorine or bleach!
  • Provide a proper door mat at the entrance.
  • Use soft protection underneath chair legs (e.g. cork or felt), and replace them in time if they get damaged.
  • Rolling furniture should be fitted out with soft wheels.

Underfloor heating constructions:
LiquidDesign can be used on underfloor heating constructions. The start-up protocol of the underfloor heating must first have been performed entirely in accordance with supplier guidelines. Switch off the heating one day before application; switch back on at least 72 hours after the final paint coat, in steps of 5° C water temperature maximum per day. Make sure that the floor temperature never exceeds 29 °C.
