    Westbond fusion bonded tiles

Fusion bonding is a sophisticated method of carpet tile manufacture where individual yarn pile is bonded onto the backing material to make an extremely dense and luxurious carpet tile. Each tuft is individual and a high proportion of the yarn is in the wear surface providing a beautiful, rich, velour carpet tile which gives an excellent broadloom appearance.

    Tessera Random lay. Batchless

    Tessera Random lay. Batchless

A random lay tile is cleverly designed so that it may be laid in any direction to produce a totally individual installation. Different production consignments of ‘batchless’ tiles can be used together without the usual risk of visible batch variation. An additional benefit is that spare stocks do not have to be carried and installation waste is minimised to 2%.

LRV & NCS codes

LRV & NCS codes

In architecture, Light Reflectance Value (LRV), is a measure of the percentage of visible and usable light that is reflected from a surface when illuminated by a light source. The LRV can be linked to a number of decisions on which colour can be chosen. The approximate LRV of a colour indicates the amount of visible light that a colour will reflect. Black has a light reflectance value of 0% and absorbs all light. White has a light reflectance value of 100% and keeps a building light and cool. It also links to the use of electricity where lighter colours need less lighting which is a direct saving for the environment. All Forbo products carry a light reflection value, which can be found on the collection pages with the description of each item.

NCS colour coding describes the colour of any material. With numeric colour codes, so called NCS Notations, such as NCS S 1080-Y70R, any colour can be described precisely. NCS has defined 1950 standardised colours at every tenth step of the colour space to represent the entire colour space. Each notation's colour sample is visually identical to any other colour sample of the same notation, whether it is a standardised colour or a colour in between the 1950 standard colours. This way you can find matching flooring colours with other coloured items in a room.

Light reflection (LRV) and NCS colour codes are available for all items of this collection. They can be downloaded via INSERT DOCUMENT HERE

The 'Natural Colour System', NCS has been developped in order to indentify the colour value, its intensity and hue for a product. By using the NCS maesurement system colours and colour groups can be identified and matched regardless of the material that has been used. In this way colour coordinates for differnt aspects of the interior of a building can be determined. All Forbo products carry a NCS code, which can be found on the collection pages with the description of each item.

Carpet Tiles & the environment

Carpet tiles - closing the loop

Our Tessera and Westbond carpet tiles may be synonymous with quality, we are always looking for ways in which to improve our production processes and product constructions to make them more sustainable. Not only do all our UK-produced tufted tiles have over 50% recycled content (by weight), we can reprocess production or installation waste and close the loop...

50% Recycled content
By challenging the way tufted carpet tiles are made, our UK-produced Tessera tiles now boast over 50% recycled content.

Reduced tile waste by 80%
We use innovative ultrasonic blades to cut our carpet tiles, which reduces tile waste by 80% compared to the standard technique. And our new extruder creates a closed loop process, ensuring that the little waste we generate is recycled back into the product.

Reduced amount of virgin materials
We’re reducing the amount of virgin materials we use. For example, instead of throwing away yarn ends, we rewind them and tuft them into our Tessera range. We even have several ranges made with up to 100% ECONYL® regenerated yarn.

Westbond Natural with up to 74% recycled content
For those looking for something closer to nature, our Westbond Natural range is made from the undyed wool of seven different UK sheep breeds and has up to 74% recycled content in its backing.

Quick and easy to clean
Our carpet tiles are quick and easy to clean using a system called Dry Fusion, which uses heat, a little water and natural, organic cleaners. So you can use less water and fewer chemicals without compromising appearance.

Reduced fitting waste
Following Green Design principles, our innovative random-lay carpet tiles reduce fitting waste to less than 2%. And any Tessera fitting waste can be collected for recycling at our plant near Preston, Lancashire, where it is processed back into new carpet tiles.

Carpet recycling UK
As a founder member of Carpet recycling UK, we are also working to ensure that at the end of life our carpet tiles can be recycled or reused.
